Despite having a lot going on for them alongside their invasion of Ukraine, Russia still registered an interest in hosting Euro 2028 which rivalled the UK and Ireland’s joint bid. It is noteworthy to know that Russia is currently on a ban from all football competitions by UEFA with wolfwinner casino not being able to provide odds on their games anymore..
The UK and Ireland partnered up in hopes of winning the bid for the hosting rights for the European Championship to be held in 2028, having made their official bid ahead of the deadline which was set for March 23.
Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales were previously the sole bidders for the prolific tournament, now, Russia managed to become a bidder for the game just before the deadline.
Following the country’s invasion of Ukraine back in February, UEFA and FIFA placed a suspension ban on every Russian club and national team across all age groups.
It is noted that the Football Union of Russia (RFU) are still waiting for the result of an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and they are free to bid for Euro 2028 hosting rights.
After an executive committee meeting was held on Wednesday, the union released a post of the result on its official website that included an agreement to “support the decision to declare interest in hosting the European Championship 2028 or 2032 in Russia”.
Rustem Saymanov, who is a member of the RFU executive committee, was also able to confirm that the country is interested in hosting the tournament in 2032 while claiming that the bid is a serious one regardless of their military conflict against Ukraine.
Speaking to the media, Saymanov said: “The RFU is going to apply for the European Championships in 2028 and 2032, this is not a joke, yes. Life goes on with us, we are open and ready, we should not be closed to UEFA and FIFA.
“We have held many competitions at a high level. Let’s go, I admit that there is a lot of time, the situation will change, we will study everything.”
It is no news that Russia has been removed from the qualifying process of the 2022 World Cup which will be held in Qatar and is due to kick off in November. Poland was given a bye into the final of the playoffs at the removal of Russia, where best casino online can’t operate in currently due to the many sanctions.
Being interested in the hosting rights of Euro 2028 and winning it are two different things, however, we will still like to know things will play out in the bidding war for the European Championship hosting rights.
