Before buying a weight bench, try to get as much information about it as possible to avoid buying a weight bench that does not meet your needs. This is what to look for when comparing models.
Incline Angle Range
The back pad of the Adjustable Weight Bench should be able to be set to different positions to accommodate different types of training. This will include being able to set the back pad to different angles to allow for incline positions such as for chest press, shoulder press and incline flys etc. A good Adjustable Weight Bench would have the back pad set to be able to be set to positions starting from a flat position and going up to 85 degrees and above for incline work.
Back Pad Adjustment Increments
Few positions equal more compromise on angle. But 7+ back rest positions is the minimum that can offer sufficient variety for a quality bench. And then there are models that offer an impressive 10-11 positions!
Seat Pad Angle
A fixed flat seat can cause you to slide forward on steeper incline positions. This can be alleviated by a seat that tilts upward to support you in such positions.
Weight Capacity
A sturdy frame and safe position under load can matter as much as the weight itself for heavy loaded barbell training. A minimum weight capacity of 300 kg or more is therefore recommended.
Footprint and Fold-Down Size
You need to check the dimensions of your floor space to see how the folded up version of the bench is going to fit. The footprint of the bench when it is unfolded should be measured and compared to the available space in your home.
Upholstery Thickness and Grip
Don’t look for thin upholstery which will flatten quickly within heavy use. A dense 5 cm foam and tough, grippy, sweat-proof upholstery is required for serious training.

Don’t forget to check these important details before you buy an Adjustable Weight Bench, as many ‘adjustable’ benches almost but do not quite meet your needs for weight training.
