Cameras can be used to locate blockages in your drains if your drains are not emptying at all or are doing so very slowly.
Grease and Fat Accumulation
The fat that has been poured down kitchen drains solidifies within the drains and sticks to the sides of the pipes. As more fat is washed down the drains the solid fat builds up in layers. As the fat builds up within the pipe it reduces the bore of the pipe. On a CCTV survey the fat appears as a yellowish, waxy substance and can reduce a 100mm diameter pipe to as little as 50mm within a short length of pipe.
Root Ingress
Roots from trees and shrubs in your garden penetrate the soil and penetrate the drainage pipes through hairline cracks or poor joints. Within the pipe the roots form a mass of fibres, which collect other objects down the drain, blocking the pipe. Even the smallest of garden trees, growing near to a drain run could cause problems with drainage.
Displaced or Offset Joints
Displaced or Offset Joints within older clay drains are common as the ground settles with time. A survey will highlight any stepped edges between joints and indicate where debris such as wipes, grit and other solids will become lodged. Silt and Sediment Build-Up
This type of blockage can form in low points in drain runs and is usually where the gradient of the drain is poor. On a CCTV survey a silt blockage will appear as a dark, sandy deposit at the base of the drain.
Collapsed or Deformed Sections
A structural failure, such as a cracked or collapsed pipe, appears on the footage as a reduction in pipe diameter or a visible split in the pipe wall. Again, such defects cannot be cleared by jetting, and a written report along with the footage taken during the CCTV survey will provide you with the information required to budget for and execute the required repairs.
